I have been wearing scarves for a long time. Early on I found that the way to pull off a polished look no matter the outfit, was to have a few go-to styles. So, I thought I would share my favorite styles that work with a variety of outfits.
1. The Statement Necklace
I love the simplicity of this style…
1. Start with a square scarf and bring two opposite corners together to make a triangle.
2. Fold in 2-inch segments, starting at the pointed end, until you reach the straight edge.
3. Tie the ends at the back of your neck.
Voilà! Be ready for compliments!
2. The Every Day Knot
I call this The Every Day Knot because this style works with every neckline…
1. Fold your square scarf into a triangle.
2. Starting at the pointed end, fold it to the straight edge using 2-inch folds.
3. Find the mid-point of your scarf and center it on the back of your neck.
4. Bring the ends to the front and knot.
This style will elevate the look of your outfit every time!
The scarf I am wearing to show these styles is my newest addition to the Bring California Home collection, the Santa Barbara Palms Scarf.
I took photo of several palm trees in a row late in the day during one of our visits to Santa Barbara. I loved how the palm trees look against the setting sun so much that I turned it into a watercolor painting (below). And, then into the scarf you see here.
3. The Sophisticated Bandana
The Sophisticated Bandana style is chic (and subtly sassy), because it’s drapey.
1. Fold a square scarf on the diagonal.
2. Tie the ends at the back of your neck.
The style looks elegant and I guarantee you’ll get a LOT compliments.
The Santa Barbara Palms Scarf like all my scarves are 100% silk. Silk is the strongest natural fiber available. Its low density makes for light and comfortable wearing. Easy to pack or carry in your handbag.
4. The Polished Side Knot
This style gives a confident, sophisticated look to your favorite basics.
1. Fold your square scarf into a triangle.
2. Starting at the pointed end, fold it to the straight edge using 2-inch folds.
3. Find the mid-point of your scarf and center it on the back of your neck.
4. Bring the ends to the side of your neck and knot.
More time than not I will off-set the scarf behind my neck instead of centering the mid-point. I like the hi-lo look.
5. The Asymmetrical Wrap
This style is similar to the Sophisticated Bandana. The difference is you will knot it so it falls closer to your neckline and then shift the scarf a bit to the side, so it’s asymmetrical.
1. Fold a square scarf on the diagonal.
2. Roll the straight edge towards the point a couple of times. This is what shortens up a bit.
3. Place the triangle point off center, so it’s asymmetrical.
4. Tie the ends at the back of your neck.
It’s a real metropolitan, downtown, style.
6. The Double Twist Knot
It’s actually the two scarves…how awesome does this look?
1. Take two square scarves and fold each on the diagonal.
2. Starting at the pointed end, fold it to the straight edge using 2-inch folds.
3. Tie one end of the scarves together and put that knot at the back of your neck.
4. Holding the other scarf ends in each of your hands, bring them forward.
5. Switch the ends, so the right is now in your left hand and left is now in your right hand and tie at the back of your neck.
I think we will call this look…comfortably elevated.
So, these are my favorite styles that work with a variety of outfits and just about any neckline. And, now you have a few go-to styles that you can rotate with your outfits too.
The Santa Barbara Palms Scarf is a wonderful scarf to work with because it has a variety of neutral colors. It’s available in my online boutique.
