One comment I hear a lot is, “I love scarves, but I don’t know how to wear them.”
Are you’re thinking this too? I’m here to help! Here’s how to tie a square scarf in a classic yet simple knot.
A classic yet simple way to tie a square scarf is what I call The Statement Necklace.
Here’s how to create the look:
1. Start with a square scarf and bring two opposite corners together to make a triangle.
2. Fold in 2-inch segments, starting at the pointed end, until you reach the straight edge.
3. Tie the ends at the back of your neck.
Voilà!
Don’t you think this classic black sheath dress now has an elevated look with this scarf style?
You could even tie this style with two scarves. Either two scarves with the same design. Like I did below, or you could use two scarves with complementing palettes, like I styled these two neckerchief scarves.
I call this style The Double Twist Knot.
Here’s how to create the look:
1. Take two square scarves and fold each on the diagonal.
2. Starting at the pointed end, fold it to the straight edge using 2-inch folds.
3. Tie one end of the scarves together and put that knot at the back of your neck.
4. Holding the other scarf ends in each of your hands, bring them forward.
5. Switch the ends, so the right is now in your left hand and left is now in your right hand and tie at the back of your neck.
I think we will call this look…comfortably elevated.
You’ll notice that even though the style is two scarves there isn’t a lot of bulk in the look. That’s because this scarf is made with silk Georgette and has a naturally low density that is, it’s light and comfortable. It’s really an all year fabric that will keep you warm in winter, yet cool in summer.
The design on this scarf is inspired by a photo I took of a row of palm trees during one of our visits to Santa Barbara.
I loved how the palm trees looked against the setting sun so much that I turned it into a watercolor painting, then into the Santa Barbara Palms Scarf.
