What is SEO and What Does It Have To Do With My Online Marketing?

What is SEOBy now you heard of the term search engine optimization or SEO.  But what is SEO?  Can you buy it? Does it have something to do with Twitter? Maybe Facebook?

 

In terms of building a house, search engine optimization is the walls, the foundation, and the roof of your structure.  It the fundamental basics and if you don’t get them right in the beginning, you are going to be doing a lot of work on you house to get it right.

 

SEO is the same, but a lot easier than building a house.  Sure you could pay someone to do it for you, but then you are always going to rely on others to make adjustments for you.

 

It is the way that websites are visible to search engines.  In other words, it is keywords or phrases that are captured by the “spiders” and they tell the search engine what that page and website is about.  Then when people go and start looking for information on the internet and type in what they are looking for, know as keywords, the search engines have made notes on all the web pages and direct the results to pages that will have the information.

 

So, to properly optimize your website means to organize it so that the search engines associate it with specific keywords.

 

SEO might sound very complex to you now, but as you learn more about how the internet works and how to set up a website you will see that it’s not too complicated.  You find the there is a general formula to work with and as the search engines develop you will just need to make periodic tweaks.

 

Search engine optimization or SEO is a skill that is learned and yes, even the most knowledgeable internet folks are always learning new strategies.
