Do you feel completely lost trying to put together a content marketing strategy? Help has arrived!
Marketing plans come in all shapes and sizes. The right marketing plan for your business depends on many different factors. But one thing all businesses have in common is that they can benefit a great deal from blogging.
Blogging is a tactic used in content marketing. When you write a blog, you publish a steady stream of fresh content. This content draws traffic to your site and earns new visitors (potential clients), while also building a relationship with the readers you have.
Blogging Is Simple and Very Effective
Many small businesses don’t want to blog because it’s ‘writing’ and you’re not a ‘writer.’ But blogging is can be extremely simple. This is why it makes a perfect element in a marketing plan. And ALL (not yelling, just emphasizing) small businesses need to have an online presence these days.
Blog posts can be as short as 300 words or even less. They can include videos and images. Each post can cover one simple topic and the writing doesn’t have to be magazine-grade. Write in a conversational tone like you’re talking to a friend and proofread so that there aren’t any grammar or spelling mistakes.
The way to blog headache-free is to set aside a little time each week to write and post. Carve out an hour or so to write something and post it. You can even hire someone who can write well, you just provide an outline for some direction.
How to Get Ideas
The other trouble many people have when they start blogging is where to get ideas. I know you have a ton of ideas though. 😉
This list will help you think of some great topics for your blog posts:
- Answer questions customers often ask (this alone should should give you at least 50 post)
- Teach readers how to do something simple step by step (think of what they should know or do before they work with you)
- Discuss news or hot topics (however, take a different approach, so you don’t become a “me to”)
- Answer questions from forums, Q&A sites like Yahoo Answers, social media or blog comments
- Start by looking at popular keywords and write blog posts around them (the Google Keyword Tool can help you).
Keep an idea file. Spend some time brainstorming topics at first and then add to it whenever you get an idea. Whenever you need an idea, refer to this file and start writing. I like to use my Notes App on my iPhone.
Your Content Marketing Strategy
Here’s you action step…Decide what topics your blog will cover and at what frequency you’ll write and post. If you add a blog to your website, you’ll boost your site’s SEO and give visitors more to do when they get there. You’ll also be providing your potential clients with valuable information and set yourself up as the expert in your area. As you build your library of posts, you can use your blog’s analytics to learn more about your prospects, build a relationship and convert those leads into sales.
Get a notebook and start making a list of all the questions clients have ever asked you. Next, set aside 30-mintes per week and answer one question, then in a few days proof what you wrote and post it to your blog. Look at these posts as your sales representative working for you 24-hours a day.
Your success is my business!
