No one wants work to be boring. If you’re bored and lost your enthusiasm, you’ll never do your best, much less above and beyond. As an entrepreneur it’s crucial that your business productivity be at its best and one element can keep your enthusiasm going and help you serve your customers much better.
So let me ask you, how much fun do you have in your business? What about your contractors, employees, and team members? Do they have fun? Consider integrating some fun into your business. It can provide tremendous benefits, not to mention increased productivity.
Not convinced? Let me explain the “fun” perspective…
Why Add Fun?
Think about this for just a second. Are you more likely to work hard, focus well, and be productive if you’re having fun? Or are you more likely to be productive if you’re bored and unfocused?
If you answered that you are more likely to work harder if you’re having fun, then you’re like the vast majority of people, including your team members. The truth is that people usually work harder when they feel happy and joyful at work than when it feels like work.
Studies have shown that when businesses actually promote fun, and having fun at work, the employees seem to have more energy, self-esteem, and enthusiasm. They are more productive, more creative, and – this will be really important to you – they treat customers better. Extremely importante!
You may be thinking right now…
“Theresa, really? “Fun”, it’s business not a concert?”
Stay with me now. Of course you can add music to your office space or tell jokes, but that’s not really what we’re talking about.
It’s more effective to actually integrate fun into your business systems. Imagine if you can take one hum-drum task and make it fun? How would that change your experience? What about your customer experience? What if filling out a form or talking to customer service was actually fun? How would that impact your business productivity and, more importantly, how would it impact your sales?

Internal Fun with Business Productivity
There are a number of ways to add fun to your day-to-day internal operations.
For example, you might make it fun by initiating a sense of team competition. Even for your affiliates, that can be exciting. But it also works internally.
Other simple ideas include financial incentives, parties and celebrations, public recognitions, and other things that can be tied to performance and can add excitement to working.
External Fun with Business Productivity
Your customers and prospects like to have fun too. Take a look at the steps and processes they go through.
For example, when they hit a broken link or an error page on your website, is it fun? How might you make that simple step or process fun? What about filling out a form or dealing with customer service? How can you make it fun some enjoyable?
The language that you use on your website can often be an easy thing to change. You can make it more lighthearted and more reflective of you and your business and brand personality.
The bottom line is that when people have a little bit more fun they work harder. Customers enjoy the process of doing business with you more as well. Both ways, it results in better productivity and more income.
